Geneva, 21 January 2014. UfM Secretary General, Fathallah Sijilmassi, delivered a keynote speech at the Conference ‘The Union for the Mediterranean and the Arab Spring’, organised by the European Centre for Culture and the University of Geneva on 21 January, 2014.
The Conference was organised under the auspices of Mr. Jean-Dominique Vassalli, Rector of the University of Geneva, with the support of the Federal Department for Foreign Affairs (DFAE), Directorate for European Affairs (DAE), and was chaired by Professor Dusan Sidjanski.
UfM Secretary General presented his vision for the current socio-economic situation in the Mediterranean region and the contribution that the UfM could bring to the on-going development process and regional integration, especially through concrete projects promoting job creation, women empowerment and youth mobility.
The Conference was attended by representatives of the diplomatic community, media, research institutes and university students. The debate was rich and the audience raised many issues related to different aspects of UfM and the current situation in the Mediterranean region.
